Papers pertaining to the publication of Destutt de Tracy's works [manuscript], 1807-1813.

The collection contains the original manuscript of his commentaries on Montesquieu, ca. 1807, published as "A commentary and review of Montesquieu's spirit of laws," 1811. A note by Thomas Jefferson on the commentary and its printing accompanies the manuscript. The collection also contains a letter from William T. Woodman to William Duane apologizing for his literal and unpolished translation of Montesquieu's "A treatise on political economy" for United States publication, 1813 December 23.
